Prairie Heights Elementary School (PHES), is located at the west edge of the community. It was opened in 1954 and expanded by two relocatable classrooms in 1993. The building is well maintained and remains in good condition in spite of 45 years of use. It now houses grades K-4, plus a preschool class. The main building contains five graded classrooms, a special services classroom, a counselor's room, a music room, a speech room, a nurses' office, and a teacher's workroom. An office for the principal as well as the secretary are also part of the main building.
The gymnasium is regulation size and has hardwood flooring. Generous space provides spectator seating for programs and athletic events. Classrooms are very well sized with an excellent storage room for student supplies and teaching materials.
A
relocatable unit was converted from two classrooms to a library with
adjoining
computer lab in 1998. Students have daily access to a wide
variety
of library books and a computer lab.
