Kindergarten Round-up -
April 10 at PHES
Prairie
Heights Elementary School will be holding Kindergarten Round-up Tuesday, April
10, starting at 9:00 AM. A child
must be five- years old by August 31, 2007 to attend kindergarten next
term. Parents need to provide
copies of birth certificates, social security numbers, and past medical and
immunization records for each child.
If
community members know of patrons with children who will be kindergarten age,
but did not receive a letter from the school, please call the PHES office at
482-3224 to obtain additional information.
No PHES Kindergarten
Classes on April 10
Prairie
Heights Elementary School will be holding Kindergarten Round-up on April 10
starting at 9:00 AM. In the
afternoon preschool screening will also take place at the school. Due to these two events, PHES
kindergarten students will not have school April 10.
USD 417 Preschool Screening
On April 10th preschool screening will be conducted at
Prairie Heights Elementary School in Dwight for potential participants in USD
417 s Four-Year-Old At-Risk Program for the 2007 - 2008 school term. To make an appointment for screening
call the school at (785) 482-3224.
Screenings will be held from noon to 4:00 PM on April 10th. If the 10th is not
convenient for you, there will also be a preschool screening on April 13 at
Council Grove Elementary School from noon to 8:00 PM. To make those arrangements call (620) 767-6851. Children must be four years old by
August 31, 2007 to be eligible for this particular screening. Screenings will be completed in the areas of concepts, motor
and language development. There
will also be a vision and hearing check.
The Flint Hills Special Education Coop will also be conducting preschool screenings on the same dates, times, and places for children ages 0 thru 3.

To take advantage of either of
these preschool screenings, call during regular school hours for an
appointment.
USD 417 Capital Outlay Ballot Question April 3
Patrons
of USD 417 are encouraged to vote on Tuesday, April 3, regarding the election
of school board members and the resolution passed by the USD 417 Board of
Education to have the authority to use up to five mills for capital outlay funds. If you have questions, contact Diane
Miller, USD 417 Superintendent, by calling 767-5192 or by email at

PHMS Science Fair
The
Prairie Heights Middle School annual science fair will be held Friday, May 11,
from 7 8 PM.

Scholarıs Bowl
Prairie Heights Middle Schoolıs
junior varsity and varsity scholarıs bowl teams finished their season on
Monday, March 26th at the league tournament held at Luckey in
Manhattan.
The
tournament was set up with two pools playing each team in the pool. The top two teams from each pool then
went on to compete in the finals.
Both Prairie Heights junior varsity and varsity teams won one match in
pool play, but neither qualified for the finals.
The
junior varsity finished the season with 3 wins, and the varsity finished the
season with 5 wins!
Team
members competing at the league tournament for junior varsity were: Ashley
Davidson, Leeza Enfield, and Delmis Blanco. Team members for the varsity were: Erin Carroll, Jillian
Kraus, Taylor Morgan, and Ty Swartz.
They all did a great job!
Cody
Schnurr, 6th grader, was manager for the scholars bowl team this
year. He was a great help and even
filled in as a scorekeeper for the tournament! Thanks Cody!

Staff Development/Late Start
for Students April 4
April 4, 2007 will be a 10:00 AM late
start for students. Staff members
will be involved with staff development and start their school day at 8:00 AM. Buses will run morning routes two hours
later and breakfast
will be served when students arrive.
April 13 - Staff Development No School for Students
April 13, 2007 will be a staff development day for USD 417
teachers. Prairie Heights staff
will be either participating in Crisis Prevention Intervention workshops,
scoring state writing assessments, establishing career curriculum,
participating in the Subject Area Committee (SAC) Reading work, or determining
science course /assessment alignments.
Therefore, students will not have school.
There will not be an After School Program on this date, but
daycare at PHES will maintain regular hours for children.

Update
The
Prairie Heights PTO will meet at the Prairie Heights Elementary School library
on Wednesday, April 25, at 5:30 PM.

The
Prairie Heights Site Council will meet at the Prairie Heights Elementary School
library immediately following the PTO meeting on Wednesday, April 25, at 6:30
PM.
