PTO-What is it?  It is an organization open to anyone interested in their school.  It is designed for parents and teachers to help each other to further the education and experiences of our children.  Our meetings are held on the 4th Monday of the month from 7:30-8:30 p.m. in the school libraries, alternating between the Alta Vista and Dwight schools.
    PTO funds many activities for the students.  Below is a list of functions that we have supported thus far.
Prairie Heights Twister T-shirts to every student including the new students throughout the year.
D.A.R.E. Graduation Cake for students completing the D.A.R.E. program.
Incentives such as pop, candy bars, window decals and dog tags for the A Honor Roll, B Honor Roll, BUGS Award     and  Perfect Attendance.
An all school skating party each spring.  We provide b us transportation and pay for admission for all students attending.
Bussing, driver, and mileage each summer for students to attend swimming lessons in Council Grove.
Pop for K-5 field day.
Funding of the KU Reading Program.
Book Give-aways at home basketball games for Preschool-8th.
Support funding of the Elementary History Day.
Purchase of the new Sound System for the schools.
Music for the music department for students.
Accelerated Reader Test CD for the library.
Book fairs at both the Elementary and Middle Schools.
School Assemblies.

    Our funding for these events depends on willing and interested volunteers.  Our fund raising has consisted of only a couple projects.  We fund the concession stands for football and basketball.  during the basketball season we rely fully on the help of the 5th grade teacher and students to order and run our concessions for our home games.  Cake raffles at these events helps add to our fund as well.  We have hosted the AV Alumni Banquet in the past, but this year we sold greenery for the holidays, which was a success with Kris Dugan as our chairman for the project.  We also receive donations from the Dairy Queen in Council Grove.
    As you can see, we help the students in many ways and we don't spend most our out time fund raising to do it.  We take advantage of opportunities that maximize our band account without running us door to door with a sales pitch.  Thank you for taking time to visit our web-site that is another way teachers are working to get information to parents about their children and school.  Feel free to join us at our next meeting.  Watch the web for the upcoming date!!
