The Prairie Heights
Science Fair will be held Thursday, March 14, 2002, from 7pm to 8 pm in
the gymnasium.
Many students have already decided
on a topic and are working on a project. There are ideas for projects
in the student science books, our library media center, the Internet (Google.com)
and Public Libraries. I encourage students to choose a topic that
they are interested in and one they will learn a great deal about.
Please help your child plan a project,
fill out the enclosed entry blanks, and return to me by Thursday, February
14th.
Exhibits will be displayed on student
desks or in an area equal to that area, or if students wish to display
their project on the floor. Construction of exhibits must be durable
and firmly attached. Exhibits cannot be attached by nails, screws,
bolts, etc. to the desks. Masking tape may be used.
Live animals, dangerous chemicals,
open flames and explosives may not be exhibited. If your exhibit
requires electricity, make sure you have all your switches and cords
covered.
Students will work independently on
a project. Parents, teachers, or sponsors may advise, but must
not build the project. Students should acknowledge the contributions
of others if appropriate.
Each student should include a poster
with information explaining exhibit using the steps in the scientific method.
Awards for 1st, 2nd, 3rd place winners
will be awarded in each grade, with one overall winner being the Grand
Champion.
Students will set up their projects
from 12:40 to 1:00 with judging to follow. High School science students
will interview each student and judge their project.

Randy Lehman
