Research Paper & Project
Due Dates 1999

(Majority of the work is to be done outside of class time)

In any scientific investigation, we must formulate a hypothesis about a particular phenomena, research the background of this topic by finding information that teaches us on the past history of the topic as well as what is presently being worked on in this area. A true hypothesis is formed from our knowledge of this topic material. As we gain information we can then decide on a procedure which may include an experiment or a project which will give us data to support or refute our hypothesis.

Midway Through November- We will be looking at selecting a topic. This has been mentioned previously and we should have some general idea of what we want to do. Remember that this topic needs to be something that we can verify is a problem for living organisms on our planet and it must have a feasible solution.

December 1st through Christmas Break- During this time period we will have several days scheduled to work on the internet to gain information on our topic. At this time we should be seperating material as usfull and not needed. We should also be transferring material to notecards or create documents which will allow us to get straight to the point. Remember that through all our research we will be gathering information for our research paper as well as getting ideas on how to do a project or experiment which will provide a possible solution to our topic or problem.

Through January- we will continue researching our topic and develope our strategies for presenting our research paper. During the last week in January we will be handing in a rough draft of our procedure portions of our project or experiment. This is a step by step detailed product which would allow someone who knows nothing about the topic to do the project or experiment and gain data to check our hypothesis.

February- In the first week of February we will be handing in the final copy of our papers to be graded. The procedures portion can be updated at any time but approval of the procedures portion must occur by  Mr. Finch before you may begin your project or experiment.
