The Biolgy Page was created by Mr. Finch, CGHS
Biology Teacher and Jason Ziegler a Junior at CGHS who is working on an
independent study class in web page design.
About Mr. Finch
I have been teaching at CGHS for ten years. This
is the first teaching position I have had and really love the community
as well as this school.
As a high school student I found myself involved
in just about every activity available at my home town school in Pomona,
Ks. In many ways my high school and CGHS are very similar. My love for
sports, drama, and music allowed me to express myself in many ways. After
working several years of construction, I soon found myself missing athletics
and involvement with young people. I knew the only way I could be around
sports and our future adults, was to be a coach and teacher. This prompted
me to go back to school and pick up a teaching degree. The subject I found
most enjoyable in high school was biology and science. I am by no means
a biologist, but only and individual who likes learning about all forms
of life and their interactions with other forms of life. I think that is
how I am as a teacher, just another learner of life. Hopefully I am able
to help guide those who want to learn about the interactions of living
organisms through a fun learning process.
The web page was actually a creation that
came about due to our school potentially going into a block scheduling
format change. With block scheduling, one of the worst complications of
it, is to not see students each day of the week. This brings about communication
problems, so to help this, the web page could provide useful information
in the form of notes, missed assignments, and helpful resources. I found
a student, a gift from Heaven, Jason Ziegler. Jason wanted to work with
web page design and so we set up an independent study program so he could
use an hour each day to help me build the biology web page. Without Jason,
this page would not be where it is today. Jason was also instrumental in
helping assemble the track web page for our school as well. Hopefully this
will stimulate other students into helping other teachers develop web pages
or help us who have them going. Without student assistants, we cannot continually
keep updating these pages for students to use.
I hope you find the material in this page useful
and educational. Any suggestions or complaints you may have about this
page would be helpful in letting us maintain this page for the benefit
of the students here at Council Grove High School.
About Jason Ziegler
I got started into computers when I
was in 7th grade. I was willing and wanting to learn everything I
could about them. When I found out about the internet, I thought
that it was neat, and I started getting on the computers more and more.
Then I convinced my mom to get a computer, and we went looking for one,
and found a good one, and got it. After having the internet at home,
and as I started to use it, I found a great amount of information that
was available to me. Then I started getting into home pages and how
to build them. I found the process of creating and building my own
home pages was exciting. When I first started messing with home pages,
I didn't know what I was doing, i just stumbled along. Then I started
learning and spent hours just messing with it, and finally after many hours
on the computer, I understood how to use it.
Mr. Finch asked if I was willing to help him create a
Biology Page as an independent study project. Since working on computers
is something I am interested doing as a vocation, this seemed like a great
idea. I have learned a lot this year about web page design, that
I thought I already knew, but really knew really little about. I
think the biology home page is neat to have, because it has a lot of useful
information to use about what you are studying. I have really enjoyed
being able to work on this home page. After High school, I would
like to get into a career in Computers, I would like to do Computer Repair,
Computer programing, Computer Building, and other things that involve Computers.
I plan to go to a vo-tech to learn it.
