Second Grade
Mrs. Collins
===========
Members of the High School Leadership Class taught by Brandon Barr visit our classroom every other week. They helped us to make leis after we read the story Luka's Quilt in our reading book. We made a pattern with the flowers as we created our leis.

Our leadership class buddies, along with Mr. Barr, two students from K-State and Tamie Dragone helped us make leaf prints. We have been talking about plants and why leaves change color in science.

Fire Safety Week - we visited the Council Grove Fire Station. The volunteer fire fighters told us about the trucks, the equipment they have to wear, and showed us how far the water can spray. We also saw an ambulance and heard it's sirens! Thank you fire fighters for volunteering to keep our community safe and for the smoke detectors you gave us!

Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious! That is what Mrs. Collins says we are. We raised $94.30 for our schools by collecting 943 Box Tops. Thank you to all of our families, friends and neighbors for helping us. We hope to raise 1,000 Box Tops by next Spring - please help us!

Beau Peterson and her mom, Dustin, gave her classmates a glimpse of life on a ranch. The second graders have recently read the story Roundup on Rio Ranch. Beau and Dustin shared how to care for a horse and saddle it for a day of working cattle. Following a demonstration by Beau on how to rope, students were given an opportunity to try their luck at roping. They found out it isn't as easy as Beau makes it look. Thank you Beau and Dustin for sharing with us about ranching and horses.
