Drivers Education
The school district will offer a drivers education program that
is taught during the school year and the summer.
The program will be outcomes-based, which means that students
will have to pass units with a pre-set minimum percent for each
competency in order to pass the course and receive 1/2 credit
pass-fail on their transcripts.
Four 9-week classroom sessions will be offered during the school
year concurrently or before driving sessions. Driving sessions
will be offered during spring and summer.
The following will be guidelines for USD 417 Drivers Education
program:
I. Attendance
A student must not miss more than 5 of the scheduled class periods.
Issues of illness must be supported by a statement from a licensed
physician or other health care provider. A student must attend
all driving sessions .
II. Student Eligibility
All students residing in USD 417 who will be 15 years old on or
before October 1 of the current year and who are currently enrolled
in Council Grove High School are eligible to enroll.
III. Grading Procedure
No student will be eligible for credit in driver education unless
(s)he successfully completes each instructional module at the
stated criteria. This will be credited on a pass/fail basis.
IV. Make-Up Procedures
All make-up will be completed within one week of the last scheduled
day of class each session.
V. Testing Procedures
No student may take more than two (2) exams per day. Make-up tests
will be administered only with permission of the instructor.
VI. Test-Out Procedure
No student will be eligible for a test-out of the driver education
program.
VII. Time in Car
Each driver education instructor will spend no more than 9 hours
per day instructing students.
