Kansas School Library Media Month, April 2005

This year I chose Laugh it up @ your library for my theme. I wanted to focus a little more on the high school as it is hard to do activities that seem to include them when you are in a K-12 library.

One of the activities I chose was for students to come in during Activity Period and read comic books. This did not go over as well as I hoped it would. I'm sure my JH students would have eaten it up, but I didn't have a lot of takers for HS.

My other big activity was a "Jokes in the Library" time. All high school students came to the library, and I had students volunteer to share jokes with the student body. (I previewed the jokes before hand.) I was really nervous as we have some students (as every school does) who can be really rude to one another. We started off with two boys doing "Who's on First". This went very well as it is something that no matter how many times you hear it, it is funny. The whole thing went very well!

The students had a good time and were very polite. I also had a JH session of this and it went pretty well also. I really felt good that I had stepped out of the box and tried something different.
