Kansas
School Library Media Month, April 2004
I bought the READ disk from ALA that allows you to
make READ posters. We then took pictures of all faculty and staff in
various
walks of life reading. We started before Christmas encouraging the
teachers with young children/grandchildren to take a picture reading
to them. We have several of those including me reading to my granddaughter
and grandson in NJ in Dr. Seuss hats at Christmas.
Other unique poses include a teacher looking horrified reading a Stephen
King; one in witch's costume reading Shakespeare; our vocational ag.
teacher actually in a duck blind in camoflauge reading a Bowhunter
magazine; our Spanish teacher in Mexico reading a Spanish book (we
used LEA for her poster); a basketball coach near the rim of the hoop
reading John Wooden's One on One; a bicycling teacher reading by the
roadside Exodus; the cooks in the cafeteria window all reading recipe
books.
The kids are having lots of fun with it and we got a nice story in
the newspaper with a picture. Our in-house publishing company did the
poster presentations. The largest we could do was 11x17 but that is
a nice size for most of the pictures.
We plan to have a vote on Friday for the favorite READ poster.
