PDC Minutes- 1/2/08
Kelly Gentry called the PDC meeting to order at 4:30pm at the District Office. The members present were Kelly Gentry, Diane Miller, Wayne Engle, Mae Thomas, Christa Miller, Susan Graham, Joe Glotzbach, Kelly McDiffett, Judeen Bachura, Randy Lehman & Sherry Edmiston.
The minutes were read and approved.
Kelly asked the committee to discuss book studies and how they are to be handled. Currently the plan addresses book study groups. There have been some teachers who want to do individual book studies. Kelly wanted guidelines on what constitutes a reasonable book study and what is needed for verification. The district plan only addresses groups. Individuals need to turn in an IDP and then turn in typical verification for a normal log and reflection.
Kelly spoke to the group about the
Carl Perkins funds used at the high school.
There are some major changes taking place at the federal level. One of the new
rules is that Perkins money cannot be spent on professional development without
the approval of the PDC. The Carl
PerkinsŐ plan needs to be submitted to the PDC as part of the total district
plan.
Kelly has gotten back about ¾ of the feedback forms from the PLC on Dec. 21st. The overall feeling was that the day went smoothly.
Kelly had us look at upcoming in-service days. March 7th and April 18th with constitutes 2 hours work day on March 7th and the rest of the time would be divided into ½ day segments for rotating professional development. The district will be divided into three sections. Each section will have Sheltered Instruction Operational Protocol (SIOP) for ½ day, PLC/Trimester for ½ day and each building will come up with professional development for the other ½ day.
Susan brought up a concern on how to get PDC points for mentoring a student teacher. Refer to pg. 22 in the PDC manual for guidelines.
