BURLINGTON HIGH SCHOOL SCHOLARS' BOWL LETTERING POLICY

ATTENDANCE AT PRACTICE:
Practice is held before school from 8 am. until bell time, in the mornings and during home room time, on days when you do not have another meeting. Practices are not currently scheduled on Wednesdays or Fridays during home room. You are expected to be at practice on time. You will be given one point when you are on time and one-half point for those times you are there, but late. Late means a few minutes not the majority of the practice time. The practices are for your benefit and the team's, not the coach's. A minimum of four points in a week will be considered necessary to be eligible for participation in any week's meet.

ATTENDANCE AT MEETS: In the event you are selected to play for a given match, you are expected to be at the school in time to leave with the team. Tardiness will not be acceptable as the team will leave on time. If an unforeseen circumstance arises and you are unable to attend, you are expected to contact the coach directly. Sending word with another student is not acceptable.

APPROPRIATE DRESS: Since you are representing the school, you are expected to dress in such a manner as to bring credit to the school. Acceptable clothing items include: better quality jeans or slacks, shirts and blouses, or dresses. Unacceptable items include: vogue fashion items of questionable taste, shorts, halter tops, torn or dirty clothing.

COMMITMENT: As a part of the team, your fellow teammates and the school depend on you. Team members have spent long hours in practice and the school has paid a registration fee for the matches. You are required to act in a manner and display the dedication and enthusiasm necessary to make the Scholars' Bowl activity enjoyable for yourself and the other team members. Remember, if you do not put forth your best effort, the activity can be less than enjoyable for all concerned.

SPORTSMANSHIP: You are expected to conduct yourself in a manner which displays good sportsmanship. One way in which this is accomplished is to always shake the hands of opposing team members regardless of the outcome of the match. In the event you need some clarification on a question or procedural matter always be courteous and respectful. It serves no purpose to malign either the sponsoring school or any of your opponents and such behaviors will not be tolerated.

LETTERING REQUIREMENTS:
Students must compete in one more than half of the regular scheduled competitions. In addition, the coach may award one letter for superior effort, enthusiasm, attitude and dedication. Participation in Scholars' Bowl for the four years of high school may also be criteria for lettering. All participants will be in good standing with the team, coach, school and the KSHSAA in order to receive a letter. Extenuating circumstances such as illness or injury will be taken into consideration on an individual basis by the coach, activities director and principal.
