NEWTON HIGH SCHOOL
COLLEGE BOWL LETTERING POLICY


The following criteria must be met to earn a college bowl letter:

A. Team members must accomplish one of the following requirements:
1. Be on a team that wins one varsity college bowl.
2. Win a minimum of ten (10) rounds in varsity competition during the season.
3. Be a member of the High-Q team and qualify for the television rounds.

AND

B. Team members must participate in a minimum of five (5) college bowls during the season.

AND

C. Team members will be expected to attend all scheduled practices. It is anticipated that some conflicts will arise during the year that are excusable. To receive an excused absence, you should inform one of the coaches prior to practice that you need to be excused.

Team members will receive one (1) point for each practice session attended. In the final selection for school letters, the coaches will determine what percentage of practices held should have been attended by each member.


In addition, all team members will be expected to spend sufficient time outside of practices in preparation for competition. To qualify for selection on a team ready for competition will mean that each of you prepare to contribute to that team effort.

Preparation includes working on assignments given in practice; working with the college bowl computer disks; keeping up-to-date with current events magazines and working together with other team members.
