PRAIRIE VIEW HIGH SCHOOL

SCHOLARS' BOWL GUIDELINES

Quiz Bowl season --- November 1 to State Tournament in March.

No student may participate in more than 8 competitions per year (exclusive of Regional and State competitions.) Any contest in which the subject matter of at least 3 of the 5 academic disciplines are covered with head-to-head competition, electronic recognition systems are used and points scored counts as a competition.

On school days when school time is used, only 2 may start before 3:00.

Practices will be held both before and after school.
7:30 - 8:20 a.m. M-T-W-F
3:40 - 4:30 p.m. M-T-W-Th
You must attend full time to have a practice count.

You must attend a minimum of two practices a week (two weeks prior to any competition) to be eligible to participate in a competition. Exceptions to this rule may be made by the coach for Regional and State Tournament teams or to complete a team roster. The minimum is a must for eligibility but those who want to earn a position for varsity or J.V. competition will want to attend more than the minimum.

Team members will be selected on:
1. Their demonstrated ability to answer questions, cross curriculum and/or especially well in any one of the six topic areas--Social Studies, Language Arts, Mathematics, Science/Health, Fine Arts and Current Events.

2. The speed in which they can respond with a correct answer.

3. Their ability to work with fellow team members to support and encourage each individual to develop the strongest team.

Study materials are available both in the Library and from Mrs. Tyrrell.

Those of you who will be selected as team members are ambassadors for Prairie View High School and are expected to maintain exemplary standards of sportsmanship. Appropriate dress for interscholastic competition is required. A team captain will always be appointed to represent our interest in the interpretation of rules.

LETTERING POLICY

A letter will be given to:
1. Every student who participates in four Varsity competitions.
2. Each member of the Regional team including the alternate.

Certificates of participation will be given to every member who participates in an interscholastic competition.
