SUMNER ACADEMY SCHOLARS' BOWL POLICIES


I. ELIGIBILITY/REGULATIONS

Students representing Sumner Academy in Quiz Bowl will be required to meet the same qualifications as those in all other interscholastic activities.

Quiz Bowl members will meet academic eligibility requirements. Members will maintain satisfactory attendance and discipline records.

Members will purchase an activity ticket.


II. ATTENDANCE

Quiz Bowl members will attend practice sessions.

Quiz Bowl members will attend chosen/required tournaments/meets. If unable to attend, a member will be excused, providing that at least one week before the tournament remains and providing that the member finds his/her own replacement. If unable to attend and less than a week remains, a tournament will be deducted from the number needed for lettering (except in case of emergency).

Quiz Bowl members will agree to remain on the Quiz Bowl team for the entire year.


III. PRACTICES/MEETINGS

Weekly practices will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:10-3:50. Quiz Bowl members will attend at least one Tuesday or Thursday practice per week. When a member is scheduled to attend a tournament, both practices must be attended the week prior to the tournament date.

Other practices or meetings may be scheduled as needed either before school (7:30-8:00), during activity period, or on a Friday the day before a tournament.

Members may elect to work with quiz bowl computer program disks and count such as a practice.

Practices/meetings will be worth points toward lettering.

IV. TOURNAMENTS/MEETS

No member may participate in more than eight Quiz Bowl tournaments/meets. On the days when competitions start during the school day, only two of the eight may start prior to 3:00
p.m.

Tournaments/meets will usually be held on Saturdays. Saturday tournaments will involve the ENTIRE day. Members attending tournaments on Saturdays should not plan on attending other activities.

A few tournaments/meets will be held on schooldays. One or two will involve the entire school day. Others will be held after the school day is completed and will run into the evening hours.

Tournaments/meets will be worth points toward lettering.

Regional and State Tournaments are scheduled on Saturdays in March.

V. SUMNER ACADEMY TOURNAMENTS

The Sumner Academy Quiz Bowl teams will host a Novice and a Varsity Tournament. Dates will be announced later.

In order to host such a tournament, involvement of all members is needed. Participation in these tournaments is one of the requirements for members to letter in Quiz Bowl.


VI. CATEGORIES

Questions will be asked in the following categories: Language Arts, Mathematics, Social Science, Foreign Languages, Fine Arts, Performing Arts, and Useless Trivia.


VII. LETTERING

Letters will be awarded on the following basis:

A. Participation in five away tournaments/meets.
B. Participation in 60% of practices/meetings.
C. Participation in home tournaments/meetings.
