6th Grade Science World's Biomes list

There isn't really a consensus on how many biomes there are, or what they are. Generally speaking, scientists list from eight to twelve biomes. For our purpose, we will break some of them down into two or three so we come up with the followng list.

 Grasslands

1. Savannah or savanna (Africa)
2. Tall and medium grass prairie of North America
3. Steppes (Europe and Central Asia)
4. Pampas (South America)
5. Veldt (Africa)

Aquatic

6. Lakes and Ponds
7. Streams and Rivers
8. Wetlands (swamps etc)
9. Ocean
10. Coral reefs
11. Estuaries

Tundra
12. Arctic Tundra

 Deserts

13. Hot and Dry
14. Cold desert

 

Forests

15. Tropical rain forest
16. Temperate rain forest
17. Temperate deciduous forest
18. Coniferous forest (Boreal forest or taiga)
19. Chaparral
