Biome Links
General Ecology Sites
-
- Biomes
- These webpages were developed by approximately seventy 9th
grade students at Thurston High School in Springfield, Oregon
in 1997. This was an integrated Science, Literature, and Health
project in periods 3, 4, and 5.
- Biomes
- A biome is a large distinctive complex of plant communities
created and maintained by climate. How many biomes are there?
A recent (1999) study concludes that there are 150 different
"ecoregions" in North America alone. But I shall cast
my lot with the "lumpers" rather than the "splitters"
and lump these into 8 biomes
- Biomes - Major Ecosystems in the Biosphere
- Lots of pictures of different biomes.
- Biomes of the World by Dennis Paulsen
- From the University of Puget Sound, a lengthy paper on the
different biomes and the climate, soils, vegetation, diversity,
plant and animal adaptations, and human effects in each.
- Biomes of the World
- General information with a map of several biomes.
- The Biomes of the World
- A biome is one of the world?s major ecological communities.
This site explores the various biomes found around the world.
- Biome Map
- Map with lots of links.
- MGS Research Links: Biome Links
- Just like it says, a page with more biome links.
- Biomes and Soils
- This Web page has facts on different biomes, including their
precipitation, temperature, climate, soils, plants, and animals.
- The
Brookings Center
- Click on the icons to take a look around the Brookings Center.
Learn more about the plants and animals of our world and their
importance to our lives.
- Electronic
Zoo
- A great site for links to most animals domestic and wild.
- ** Habitats and Biomes
- Good site for finding animals, birds and
insects from your biome.
- Major Biomes of the World
- Scroll down to table of contents for specific biomes.
- Learn About Biomes!
- A biome is an area on the earth's surface that has a certain
set of characteristics. There are seven kinds of biomes in the
world: tundra, taiga, temperate forest, tropical rainforest,
desert, grassland, and ocean.
- Map Guide
- The Map Guide and to lots of map links.
- Museums in the Classroom: Biodiversity & Habitats
- From the Illinois State Museum and the Brookfield Zoo, this
site has categorized and annotated links to a wide array of information
on habitats.
- Neartica: Ecology - Biomes, Ecoregions, and Habitats
- ..
- Tour of Biomes
- A great site with lots of links.
- Tour of Biomes
- From the Earth Science Explorer.
- The
Virtual Library of Ecology, Biodiversity, and the Environment
- Browse the extensive links in this index from Rice University,
including information about habitats, legislation, endangered
species, and international treaties.
- The World's Biomes from Berkeley University
- This is an introduction to the major biomes on Earth. Biomes
are defined as "the world's major communities, classified
according to the predominant vegetation and characterized by
adaptations of organisms to that particular environment"
- World Builders: Introduction to Biomes
- There are a number of major biomes on earth, and different
ways of classifying them. I have chosen six main biomes, and
have added a section on aquatic communities.
